On the August agenda is the six-week European Maker Camp that will make stops at 5 different FabLabs and with finish at Maker Faire Rome at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. As well, there are two international appointments for design in Sydney and Shanghai. And there is also a month of workshops at FabLab Berlin and even a FabLab Summer Camp at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. And if you happen to be in Norway, don’t miss the Maker Faire Trondheim at the end of the month. For makers who are travelling the globe in August, these are the events that shouldn’t be missed. 11 AUGUST Fab Lab Maker Camp a San Diego.
16-24 AUGUST Sydney Design. At the Powerhouse Museum the undisputed protagonists are objects. The event has reached its 18th edition and is sustained by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in collaboration with 50 other creative and cultural institutions in Sydney. The exhibit includes collections designed and produced by Olivetti, Braun, and Apple, with iconic examples of radios, typewriters, calculators, computers, smartphones, and tablets. At Sydney Design 2014 FabLabs will also be protagonists with a workspace dedicated to digital fabrication and the practice of design.
25 AUGUST European Maker Camp begins: an intense six-week trip (ends 5 October) to five FabLabs and final stop at Maker Faire Rome. Interesting projects will be visited at Sitges Beach Lab in Spain, at FabLab Casemate in Grenoble, France, FabLab Zurich, Switzerland, FabLab Utrecht, Netherlands. And, finally, FabLab Cascina in Italy. The final stop will be directly at the second edition of Maker Faire Rome, at the Auditorium parco della Musica, from 3 to 5 October.
29 AUGUST The local administration of Alessandria has published a competition for the entrustment of the supply of goods and services and for the technical, instrumental and furniture set-up of a FabLab. 29-31 AUGUST Shanghai Design. The Design Biennial is one of the most important events on this theme in China. It is organized by two of the most important institutions in Shanghai: the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center. During the previous edition, the event attracted 100,000 visitors and 800 exhibitors, participation by 1,000 leading sector enterprises, and the involvement of subjects from over 20 foreign countries.
31 AUGUST The last day to participate in the Call for Global Shapers. Global Shapers is an association of volunteers that was created in 2012 through an initiative by the World Economic Forum with the aim of putting a generation of extraordinary young people into contact and involve them in the processes of changing society. With this goal, the WEF has chosen young men and women between the ages of 20 and 30, from the main cities worldwide who have provided exceptional results in their areas of interest.
